Edgewood Enrichment

5th grade enrichment students have been learning about the app Aurasma. Aurasma is a free app that uses the camera of your smartphone or tablet to recognize different images. If this image is registered as a “trigger,” the app will overlay an assigned video, animation, or other media. This is known as an “aura.”

In small groups, the students wrote scripts for and then filmed video clips. We then linked these video clips to various "trigger images" located around the school. If you scan the image with the Aurasma open (like scanning a QR code), the video will start playing. We thought this would be a fun way for people to get to know our school, and that it might be helpful for new students who are trying to learn a lot of new faces.

If you'd like to take part in our virtual tour, all you need to do is download the app Aurasma and then search for "csloderbeck" and select follow. (You do not have to create your own account in order to follow someone else.) Next time you're walking around Edgwood, look for one of the trigger images (listed below) and then use the search/scan feature on Aurasma.

Helpful Hints: Some of the videos are hard to hear so turn the volume up or use a pair of headphones. Also, if you're using an iPad with a case, make sure that the camera is uncovered. If the trigger image isn't working, try adjusting the angle of the iPad or holding it a little higher.
